Agriculture in Belize

By: Bill Lindo

Belize City. July 18th 2020: — For some time I have been writing articles trying to educate Belizeans that the reason why first the United States of America, and later Germany, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and today’s China have been able to supply a high standard of living for their citizens was because every one of them followed a version of Capitalism that was known during the nineteen century as the American School/System of Political Economy. In Belize we knew it as George Price’s Mixed Economy. George Price and I were educated in the United States before 1971 so we were taught the American System/School.

The major concepts of the American School that distinguish that version of Capitalism from the British School are:

  1. Exploiting nature rather than men.   The big boys of Belize cry that they are Christians, but still they cheat, steal, and exploit their fellow humans.  Slavery was and still is the institutional organization of exploiting man by other men.  Belize as a British colony and now neo-colony has always exploited men rather than nature. This concept has been at the heart of the differences between Hamilton’s American system and the British system/empire, and the centre of the institution of slavery for over ten thousand years
  • Tariff Protection of local agriculture and manufacturing because free trade have always benefit the strong at the expense of the weak. Trade protection of agriculture and manufacturing has been the means to providing a high standard of living to citizens. In fact, the Covid-19 crisis is showing that nearly every country on earth today is practicing protection of their local production to protect the workers of their respective countries, because of the massive dislocation of their economies. Globalization/free trade has failed.
  • High wages to workers, because as E. Peshine Smith, wrote: “In order to make labour-cheap, the labourer must be well-fed, well-clothed, well-lodged, well-instructed.” Over the last 150 years political-economists have known that the cheapest worker in money-terms is not necessarily the cheapest in economic terms. At the end of the day, money-wages is paid for knowledge, and knowledge is expensive because while the worker is learning, he has to be fed, clothed, and given shelter.
  • Money creation is a public utility and should be under the control of elected representatives of the people, not controlled by private individuals for private gain and control.  For thousands of years the act of money creation was an act of the sovereign. It was only in the last 200 years or so that private individuals were given the authority to create new money. The power to create new money from the air is an omnipotent power to be given to individuals. It is tantamount to the power of life and death.
  • Technology and innovation always causes new methods to enter production and thus profits and wages don’t diminish but instead leads to higher productivity and thus higher wages to workers. Therefore the theory of Diminishing Returns is not valid to physical reality.   A stupid theory has been taught by all the British economists from the Rev. Thomas Malthus, David Ricardo, Marshall, John Keynes, and the modern versions pushed in today’s schools that Capitalism has the seed of its own destruction within it. In fact, Keynes said that the best way to postpone this dreadful day is not to invest in productive activities such as building two railway lines from York to London, but instead better to build two pyramids – two tombs for the dead. Technology, the invention of something new, especially the application of scientific knowledge to develop new machinery and equipment –   always leads to higher productivity, thus increasing both profits and wages, leading to a harmony of interests – not class warfare.
  • A view of soil fertility and agricultural productivity as a product of capital investment – not nature.  Science is the way to solve the problem of “mining the soil”.   This concept goes back to the opposition of the Americans to both Ricardo and Malthus. Those British economists preach that man when he first settles the soil goes first to the best soil, then later to the worst. The greatest economist, the American, Henry C. Carey in his many books and articles proved that the early settler did not settle first on the best soil, but instead on the inferior because he physically could not work the best soils. He didn’t have the machinery.
  • Public infrastructure as a means to lower costs in an industrial society by introducing new methods of production and communications, and the public support of research and development. Agriculture and manufacturing industries need a glue to hold them together. That glue is infrastructure. There is both soft and hard infrastructure. Soft is education and health. Both absolutely necessary in our society. Then there is the need for roads, bridges, canals, dams, buildings, and so on. Belize must stop importing materials for our infrastructure projects and start making them ourselves, such as cement and steel. In September last year, China opened the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge/tunnel. Most Western engineers said this modern wonder was an impossible task. After 7 years, and the issuance of 1,600 patents the impossible was done. The construction of the bridge led to the development of new types of steel, including stainless steel, new heavy duty cranes, new welding methods, and others. Those new methods will now be part of the Chinese economy which means their productivity will increase tremendously, leading to lower unit prices and higher wages to workers. This is how infrastructure causes a nation-state to create happiness for its citizens.
  • Government intervention in an economy. Government as the “brain” must put a bridle on corporate bodies, and must establish the pursuit of happiness as a natural right of citizens. In Belize this principle is enshrined in the PUP’s Constitution as a sacred duty of government to create full employment and completely end poverty. The propaganda we hear every day goes something like this. The private sector is the engine of growth. The government does nothing, just steal from the productive private sector that produces wealth. Belize got its political Independence on September 21st 1981. Before we were a colony of Great Britain so we had certain restrictions to follow. Therefore, for the last 38 years the Belize private sector could do whatever it wished. What manufacturing industries were created? How was the standard of living increased by the investment of the private sector in the local economy? How many new jobs were created by the private sector?

The truth is that Belize’s private sector has created no new jobs. They created no manufacturing industries. When Belize got political independence the rate of poverty was about 23%. By 1999 it climbed to about 33%; and in the year 2009 it was at 43%. And by 2016 it was at 57.8%. Today with Covid-19 it is estimated to be close to 65%. That is the legacy of the private sector. And in March of this year it was revealed that 5% of Belizeans owned some 75% of all the cash on deposits in the banks. Young people, the less-educated and people of colour in Belize don’t own stocks, bonds, or real estate. They sell their time by the hour. And the real hourly rate has scarcely changed since 1981. The rich get richer. The poor and middle classes get poorer. Expect more corruption, more dependence, more depression, more poverty, and more unfairness.  This is why George Cadle Price wrote that it is a Sacred duty of government to intervene in the economy because only government as the “brains” of economy can put a bridle on corporate bodies to create full employment and the eradication of poverty.

I went on a trip last week, July 9th & 10th to the Toledo District with the Hon. Cordel Hyde. The trip was organised by Ya’axché, a local NGO. We also met with the two area representatives for Toledo, Hon. Mike Espat and Hon. Oscar Requena.

Now let’s talk about agriculture in Belize in relation to (f.) above — A view of soil fertility and agricultural productivity as a product of capital investment – not nature.  Science is the way to solve the problem of “mining the soil”.

Currently there are two different mind-sets about agriculture. The dominant viewpoint is the farming carried out by the big boys – the Mennonites, the large citrus farmers, Belize Sugar Industries, Santander, and a few American grain growers. The average farmed by the Mennonites is over 50,000 acres, of corn, sorghum, soybeans and rice.  Today, the Mennonites control all of Belize’s production of rice, sorghum, soybeans, half of the corn, all the chickens, most hogs, and most beef cattle are raised by them. But there is a problem.

Research has shown in Belize that for the years 2012 to 2017 yields of rice, corn, beans, citrus and vegetables have all fallen. But pesticide use was increased by some 38%/year and synthetic fertilizer use increased by nearly 98%/year.  So what’s going on?  The large Mennonite farmers have been “mining the soil” – they have literally killed their soils in obedience to the giant petro-chemical firms.

Part of the problem is philosophy – the schools and giant petrochemical firms look on agriculture as reductionists – the whole equals the sum of its parts and nothing more. The whole is entropic and linear. However, the real world is holistic – the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and is non-linear and everything, including the Universe is non-entropic.  Remember this – no reductionist has or can discover anything in this World.  In December 2019 I wrote: “Until Belize’s farmers learn scientific agriculture, our agriculture sector will continue to slowly collapse and with it rural poverty will continue to increase, as the small independent farmers are turned into wage peonage.”

Well, I take back that last sentence. The trip to Toledo with Hon. Cordel Hyde was an eye opener. Ya’axché is doing wonders in the Toledo District. They are managers of some of the large forest reserves in Belize. The Bladden Reserve has at least 22 different species of bees. They are allowing local farmers to setup beehives in the forest reserves and teaching the local farmers how to use science to manage the bees so that the honey is organic. They established a Trio Farmers Cacao Growers Association to grow organic cacao in the forest reserve using scientific methods.

They also took us to a 35 acre farm in San Felpe village where Mr Cruz has a modern integrated farm.  Mr Cruz travelled to Cuba to learn about organic agriculture. Mr Cruz grows beans, corn and vegetables. He also has permanent fruit trees like avocado, cacao, mangos, coconuts, breadfruit, and oranges. In addition, his farm has chickens, turkeys and pigs. He also created a bio-gas unit from the waste of the pigs. He thus makes his own “butane gas”.  He buys no chemical fertilizers nor pesticides for his many plants and crops. He gets nitrogen from cover crops he grows, and the waste from the trees and chicken makes very good compost to supply his plants’ needs of potassium, phosphorus, sulphur, and boron. Because he does not use dangerous chemical fertilizers like muriate of potash and gets nitrogen from the air and his other minerals from compost, he has a balanced soil with humus and lots of worms. His yields are high, without the need to “mine his soil”.

Growing crops on balanced soils with lots of worms and humus means the insects will stay away[1]. One of the major reasons for our unhealthy crops is the overuse of nitrogen leading to incomplete proteins.  A healthy plant, or a plant in metabolic balance, is either in hibernation (called repose) or it is growing very fast, depending on its supply of water, nutrients, and weather.  Regardless, the plant is in repose or growing vigorously, it is poor in amino-acids. Intensive protein synthesis uses up the amino-acids produced in the cells as fast as they appear.  Insects need soluble food to build their own proteins, including sugars, and mineral nutrients to build their complex proteins such as enzymes. But if the plant has used it all, then there is none for the insect and they die due to a lack of food.  The late Dr Phil Callahan in his ground breaking work on insects showed that insects use infrared frequency to locate sick plants (those with incomplete proteins) and then go do their job of “garbage collectors”.

Ya’axché has a secret weapon in their staff. One of the persons who teaches the local farmers how to be independent farmers, is Gustavo Requena a person trained in biochemistry. Mr Requena understands science and has himself been practicing scientific agriculture. Sometimes we call it biological agriculture, restoration agriculture, and other names. The practice of agriculture by the new farmers of Toledo is the future, especially now with the impacts of Covid-19. Ya’axché shows that scientific agriculture is sustainable. Already it is allowing small farmers to not only feed their family nutrient-dense healthy foods, but to sell the surplus enabling the farmers to send their children to University. Gustavo’s wife told us that they have not bought or used sugar for over three years. One of the sons has several bee hives and produces three different types of organic honey.

I will recommend to the leadership of the PUP that Oscar Requena be appointed the new Minister of Agriculture if the PUP wins the next general election. The Hon. Oscar Requena also has an integrated farm. His pigs are a beauty to behold. This is a man who knows what he is doing. This is the kind of leader Belize needs now to lead us out of the hell called Covid-19. The old-style of agriculture is death. The Mennonite style of agriculture is not viable again Belize. Yes, it has fed the Belizean people, but at what cost? High blood pressure, cancer, auto-immune diseases and diabetes are at an all-time-high in Belize today. Why? The dangerous fertilizers and pesticides used by the Mennonites are to blame. The over-use of nitrogen makes the products large and pretty, but it’s all empty, full of air and incomplete proteins, not fit for human consumption. Glyphosate is now banned in Mexico. The WHO says it’s a dangerous cancer causing agent. In Belize the Mennonite farmers overuse it and they even joke that they can drink it like water. But don’t forget Belizeans, when Covid-19 struck in March of this year, the dairy farmers of Spanish Lookout dug holes and threw the fresh milk in the holes. The hogs were buried alive. Why? To reduce stock because demand had collapsed. Are these Christians? Remember these people only sell to us. They don’t buy from other Belizeans. You give your money to them, but they keep theirs. You get poor. They get rich. It’s better to buy from our farmers of the South. They give you healthy, real food, and also buy from other Belizeans. Their elected representatives work for the small independent citizens of Belize.

Belize needs leaders who work for the common man and women, not those who serve the interests of the big fishes. Belizeans deserve high paying jobs and a healthy lifestyle.  The exploitation of man by man must stop before we destroy our beautiful country.

Long Live Belize!

Lifting the Veil from today’s Belize — Part II

Economic Consequences of Covid-19

By Bill Lindo

Belize City. June 30th 2020

Belizeans, it’s time to stop believing there will be a magical vaccine for Covid-19. After 17 + years we still don’t have any vaccine for SARS, so how could we now presume they will develop one for SARS-CoV-2?  Science doesn’t work like that (the oligarchs never learn, the whole is always greater than the parts), and the desire to extract some $ 8 trillion dollars from the global population for a vaccine will get nowhere. But panic and the relentless drive to strip us of our freedom to save us from a virus that could very well cost less than $100 to cure has already destroyed too many lives.

We all know that global economies have collapse in the last few months. The extent of the collapse has been dependent on how self-reliant the individual country’s economy was. Covid-19 has exposed the vulnerability of countries and people.  The grinding poverty, malnutrition and even starvation for a growing portion of our population is now unfolding before our eyes, staring at us in our faces, with all its ugliness.

The collapse globally and in Belize has ushered in the complete breakdown of old paradigms.  The Covid-19 Pandemic has pulled away the veil revealing our own society’s failures.

Many years ago, I warned our political leaders that building the economy of Belize only on the extraction of raw materials and tourism was irresponsible – that they were placing our foundation on sand, a very dangerous undertaking. Even the Bible warns us of putting all your eggs in one basket. No one listened. In March of this year, the sand moved and almost overnight 37% of the work-force of Belize was without a job and income. Poverty went from a rate of 58% to close to 65%. WOW!

I should note that not even the Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition agreed that the pre-Covid poverty rate in Belize was 57.8%. Perhaps it was too much to fathom.  Unfortunately, Covid-19 has proved me right. But how did Belize end up with such high rates of poverty?

Sometime ago, a family member told me that Belize’s society is based on “talking” on “telling stories” that’s why we have so many lawyers (my family are mostly lawyers). The lawyers are good at ‘talking” so they run for politics and are easily elected to govern Belize. However, lawyers usually take a brief, the majority of them work for who can pay them mega bucks. They certainly don’t all work for the common person. Thus Belize remains a neo-colonial society of the British variety and the notion of independence remains alien to most Belizeans.

Around 1970 the merchants were the dominant sector in Belize’s economy up to about 1975 when their power started to diminish as local manufacturing started to take off. But by 1992 the merchants were back and allied with tourism.  Let’s use the concept of what economists call “visible trade” to see the results of that unholy alliance.

In 1970, Belize’s trade deficit was some $ 24 million dollars (43% of imports). We imported $ 55 million dollars value of goods and exported $ 31 million dollars of goods to pay for those imports.  At the time of Independence in 1981, imports grew to $ 324 million dollars and exports to some $ 238 million for a trade deficit of $ 86 million dollars. The deficit was now down to 26% of imports. At the time, George Price was supporting local manufacturing and with it came an increasing standard of living and a growing and vibrant middle-class. The poverty rate was 23% at that time.  Around 1991/1992 as the power of the merchants grew again and George Price’s power waned the trade deficit grew almost threefold. In 1993 the trade deficit was $ 298 million dollars, which was some 53% of imports.  But again by 1996 there was a turn-around.  Imports fell to $ 511 million dollars and exports increased to $ 335 and Belize only had a deficit of $ 176 million dollars (34% of imports). A science teacher and pragmatist, Prime Minister Esquivel was trying to make Belizeans live within their means.

Then suddenly at the turn of the century, imports jumped to $ 1.029 billion dollars, while exports remained nearly the same at some $ 390 million dollars. The trade deficit shot up to over $ 638 million dollars (62% of imports), and with it the rate of poverty to 33%. The deal between the merchants and the foreign owners of the tourist product was now sealed.  As 2008 came to a close Belize was importing $ 1.7 billion dollars per year and selling $ 960 million dollars resulting in a trade deficit of about $ 796 million dollars. The rate of poverty also climbed to 43%. Last year (2019) Belize imported about $ 1.971 billion dollars in value of goods. We sold $ 924 million in goods ($36 million dollars less than 2008) and had a trade deficit of $ 1.047 billion dollars, while the poverty rate had climb to 57.8%.

Notice the trend above. Imports increased and exports could not keep up. Local manufacturing fell, foreign debt increased, and more Belizeans entered poverty.

Now lets’ look at the current international strategic situation:

  1. A wave of mass protests are sweeping the United States and the world. Provocateurs are channelling the opposition to the police and other institutions;
  2. The once promising improved relations between the USA and China have turned to a point of open talks of economic warfare, decoupling, and even a threatening new Cold War;
  3. There is a brazen British attempt to radically polarize the United States into civil war conditions, and to provoke a constitutional crisis between the elected President and the US military.  Put simply, George Floyd has become the prop for the third phase of the coup d’état being conducted against the United States presidency. The Atlantic (dated June 6th) says that a colour revolution is underway in the United States and quotes Anglo-American professor and intelligence regime-change operations advocate, Gene Sharp in support of this claim.
  4. The plan is to remove Trump, the obstacle to the transnational elites’ plan to maintain and consolidate their power.  In the wake of Covid-19’s death and destruction most sane people had begun to question why these elites should continue to hold any power at all.
  5. Do not be fooled by “Black Lives Matter”. They are a fake. Their agenda is the same as their right wing allies – the white racists of Identity Europa and White Identity.  Antifa and Steve Bannon’s racist Alt Right Gamers want the same thing – the “devolution of the United States into racially homogenous city-state communities”, which they boldly advocated for in their founding document, and the end of the nuclear family and God. Funding for Black Lives Matter is provided by the Ford Foundation[1], Borealis Philanthropy, George Soros, Democracy Alliance (Silicon Valley billionaires), and the big boys of Hollywood. If the oligarchy funds you, who owns you?

The dream of Dr Martin Luther King was completely different.  He insisted that social justice was to seen as providing people with productive jobs (manufacturing) and ultimately raising the wages for all the forgotten men, not just blacks, so that the whole population would be lifted into the middle class.  He also supported allowing blacks’ access to the ground-breaking work of the time, nuclear energy and space exploration.  He felt these high-order work was a  precondition for black and all poor people’s admission to higher living standards.

Belizeans need to understand that the location of “systemic racism” is in the Anglo-Dutch imperium, in the divide-and-conquer techniques and “identity politics” used to control subject populations for centuries. The central plank of British imperial colonial policy for decades was that when the subjects get restless, manipulate them to kill each other, using racial or religious divisions as the triggers, if possible.  The British have for centuries known that there will be opposition to their imperial renter-finance-exploitation, so they have always establish a “so-called opposition” to drive the legitimate opposition to their oligarchical destructive policies into a dead-end.  Right after World War I, MI6 formed the Muslin Brotherhood to destroy Arab unity against their imperial exploitation of the Arab world.  Stokely and the Black Panters was one such entity, used by the CIA and FBI against Dr Martin Luther King.  Today we have Black Lives Matter.  In Belize, the neo-colonial masters use drugs and gangs to destroy our youth – the future of Belize.  When Belize became a post-industrial society, like the Americans we ended up with over 80% of the population with less than 5% of the wealth.  In the United States there are impoverished whites and people of colour. In Belize there are people of colour in a classist society. Those in charge of pacifying and controlling this class have used race and drugs to set them against one another and blind them to their common circumstances and their ability to shape a different destiny. For the forgotten men and women of America, Covid-19 was the last straw in an economy which historically had not worked for them.

With Covid-19, the globalist system took a huge hit to its legitimacy, a hit exacerbated by the oversold and crumbling speculative-casino economy which once again was teetering on the edge of collapse, and had been since September 2019.  To halt the spread of the coronavirus, countries closed their borders and restricted travel.  This ultimately affected globalisation and unveiled the overt reliance on policies that support just-in-time supply chains and outsourcing of the production of things like PPEs and medical equipment.  These policies also contributed to the widespread disaster and deaths; fundamentally, the lockdown has caused more problems than the virus itself.  At a time when the biosciences have advanced spectacularly, the virus is being fought with medieval tools.

To analyse and contextualise all this it’s useful to first look at the situation which the oligarchs, the world’s financial elites, find themselves in, and what they are doing about it. In Belize this is quite obvious to the population – the lord of the plantation has made moves to bankrupt the government and ultimately the people.  He plans to take complete control of the entire banking sector, and he has the nerve to publically boost that he owns one of the major political parties and its leader. WOW!

Belize’s greatest conflict has always been between those, who, like our American System revolutionaries (George Cadle Price, Phillip Goldson, Leroy Taegar, Evan X Hyde, and Bill Lindo), believe that humans are endowed with divine powers in the form of their individual creativity and the oligarchs, who see men and women as beasts, governed by their impulses and desires and the means by which they can be manipulated in their schemes.  We believe that unlike beasts, humans can change and alter nature and expand their populations, inventing whole new resources in the process. In economic terms, the Belizean revolutionaries believe in exploiting nature rather than man. We know that using technology (science and engineering) in the production processes of agriculture and manufacturing is the only way to keep increasing the standard of living of our citizens.

The imperialist oligarchs, on the other hand, believe their economic systems are entropic, dependent on looting raw materials and wealth from subject populations. The main method used by imperial systems has always been financial empires, controlled by a financial oligarchy that are inherently Malthusian. They believe their continued power rests on reducing populations since their system can never produce sustained economic growth. As Britain’s Prince Phillip famously put it, in 1988, “In the event that I am reincarnated, I would like to return as a deadly virus, to contribute something to solving overpopulation.” We should ask the British Lord visiting his plantation which system he thinks is best.

So Now, what is the future of Belize?  David Malpass, President of the World Bank, on June 7th told the BBC that tourism will likely not return to its glory days and most likely it will be about ten years before it returns to the economic status it once held.   Christopher de Bellaigue[2] writing in the UK Guardian reiterated that notion – tourism has little relevance or future in the post-Covid-19 world.

What is our alternative?  If Belize wants to supply its citizens with a high standard of living then we must do the following:

  • Industrialize our economy with modern manufacturing
  • Create family farms of at least 150 acres to create a healthy and independent population
  • Transform our universities to educate our citizens in science and engineering
  • Establish a program for our youth to train and offer them productive jobs in manufacturing
  • Set the minimum wage equal to a living wage at $ 12 per hour
  • Put government deposits in the National Bank of Belize, especially now that Caribbean Investment Holdings Limited (CIHL) is set to buy out Scotia Bank (BELIZE) Ltd.

These policies have be known to contribute to the flourishing of modern economies we see around the world.  Then, a high-speed railway and energy independence from sources like nuclear reactors wouldn’t not seem so out of reach.

In addition, Belize MUST NEVER enter an IMF restructuring program.  Why?  In every Article IV review the IMF has recommended that Belize reduce its public work-force by one-third to one-half.  In Covid-19 they have not altered their conditions for access to finance. We need to understand that now with 37% of our work-force without an income – through no fault of their own – how can we as humans demand that another 8,000 + families be without an income?  It seems the craziness caused by the breakdown of our societies have turn us into animals – no longer man made in the image of his Creator.  Be it the American or British System of Capitalism – demand is the key. No income, no demand.  No income, no energy. No energy, no life.  Should the government ever reduce its workforce by over 8,000 at the same time when over 37% of the work-force is already without income, it would be tantamount to murder.

Another demand of the IMF is to again privatize the public utilities.  They believe that they should have never been made part of the people of Belize’s assets, in other words, sell BTL, BEL, BWS to foreign investors to help repay the new foreign loans for Covid-19.  The IMF also repeatedly demands that the Government of Belize must ensure that our labour-force wages become flexible, that is, wage-rates must be equivalent to those of our neighbours in Honduras or Guatemala.  Instead of the measly $ 40/day the average workers now gets, they suggest cutting it to about $ 15/day.   In addition, the IMF feels that the National Bank of Belize should either be closed or sold to the private sector, preferable to a foreign owner. Let me remind you, the purpose of the National Bank of Belize is to finance the development of Belize.  Now it is uncertain that will ever happen with the pending buy over of Scotiabank operations in Belize.  The IMF[3] has made it very clear that Covid-19 has changed nothing; those seeking loans from the Fund for Covid-19 must also follow their long-standing policy prescriptions. Their loans are not without conditions.

The program I outlined above is the appropriate response to the murder of George Floyd and the destruction of Covid-19. We would realize in the process, both the dream of Dr Martin Luther King Jr and the actual goals of the peaceful and constructive Belizean revolution.  Of course, this is the antithesis of those who carry a brief for the oligarchs. Do what Hon. Said Musa instructed years ago – follow the money.

Already we are being told that pensions for civil servants are not sustainable. They will be cut out. Civil servants get less pay than the private sector, but after retirement they get a pension. You take away that pension and you have exploited that person. In September 21st, 1981 Belize finally received its independence from the British. Let’s act like we deserved that independence and can keep it.

Belizeans, the 80%, who are the forgotten man and woman, you now have a chance to force a change in your life. I don’t think this moment in history will come for another hundred years or more. Will this great moment in history find a little people?

Later this year Belize will have a general election. Look at the facts, not political parties, but programs.  Don’t believe the lies and propaganda. If none of the major political parties support a written pledge to industrialize Belize, create family farms, pay workers a living wage and make the National Bank truly functional, then as sure as the rising sun, you Belizeans will as Silky said in his poem, reap the whirlwind – “the wild winds of your foolish desire”. Remember, you are not beasts or animals – you are made in the image of your Creator.

Long live Belize!

Lifting the Veil from today’s Belize — Part I

By Bill Lindo

Belize City: June 25, 2020: — Belize’s economy has effectively collapsed since the lockdown at the end of March. The extent of that collapse is worrying for many of us but we should also admit that Belize’s economy has been struggling for the last fifteen years.

The pillars of the economy, raw agriculture for export and tourism which pays for our imports have suffered the most.   For at least the last three years raw agriculture has been declining in value.  Citrus production has collapsed, and sugar prices have fallen by over 40%, such that their contributions to our balance of payments have declined substantially. At last year’s State of the Nation address, the Prime Minister of Belize acknowledged this and stated that because of his government’s huge investments, especially in tourism infrastructure that he believed that by the second quarter of 2020, tourism will pull Belize’s economy out of the downturn it was in.

So, what happened?

Let’s lift the veil on Belizean society.  This article is in two parts – the first on the coronavirus and the second on the economic consequences of the Pandemic, and how to, as they say, “clear shoal”.

Covid 19 Disease

In late December of 2019 suddenly an unknown virus broke out in China. By late January China was reporting that the new coronavirus – SARS-CoV-2, dubbed as Covid-19, a new infectious disease was infecting thousands of persons. As a result, China put the city of Wuhan in total lockdown and curbed travel within China. By February, the World Health Organization (WHO) was warning the global population, that the Covid-19 may quickly become a global pandemic and would likely result in the death of close to a million persons worldwide. Covid-19 was declared a pandemic March 11th and as of today some 9.6 million persons globally have tested positive for Covid 19 and over 486,000 persons have died, according to John Hopkins University. The United States has had both the most infected (2.5 million) and the most who (126,700) have died.

SARS-CoV-2 virus is easy to spread and to infect humans. According to virologists the virus is unlike other coronaviruses and has SARS, HIV, and Influenza components. Now, some scientists are saying that it also has a bacterial component. Some scientists[1] believe that because of its complexity the virus was designed in a lab and point to its “gain of function[2]” to support their claims. In a twist of irony, both the United States and China are busy blaming each other for Covid 19.  Interestingly, Dr Fauci, well-known US scientist, had authorized USD $ 7.3 million dollars to the Wuhan Virology Lab to experiment and develop “gain of functions” for coronaviruses.

After nearly 6 months of research from China, Italy, UK, USA, India, Korea, and others we know the following about Covid 19:

  1. The three core pathological processes of Covid 19 and the way it kills is by triggering hyperinflammation, hypercoagulation and hypoxia.
  2. A group of world-class United States doctors have developed and tested on American patients a Covid 19 treatment protocol called MATH + which is similar to the Shanghai (China) protocol, Yale protocol and Montefiore protocol.
  3. According to Dr Pierre Kory of University of Wisconsin School of Medicine, there are two distinct yet overlapping phases of Covid 19 infection:
  4. Phase 1 is the viral replication phase. Most patients will only experience mild symptoms, if any, during this phase. At this time, it’s important to focus on antiviral therapies.
  5. In Phase 2, the hyperinflammatory immune response sets in, which can result in organ failures (lungs, brain, heart, and kidneys). The MATH + protocol is designed to treat this active phase, but it needs to be administered early (6 hours) of admission to hospital.
  6. The MATH + protocol calls for the use of three medicines:
  7. Intravenous methylprednisolone (Medrol), to supress the immune system and prevent organ damage from cytokine storms – for mild hypoxia, 40 mg daily until off oxygen; moderate to severe illness, 80 mg bolus followed by 20 mg per day for seven days. On day eight switch to oral prednisone and taper down over the next six days.
  8. Intravenous sodium ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) to control inflammation and prevent the development of leaky blood vessels in the lung – 3 grams/100ml every six hours for up to seven days.
  9. Subcutaneous heparin (Enoxaparin), to thin the blood and prevent blood clots – for mild to moderate illness, 40 mg to 60 mg daily until discharged.  Optional additions include zinc, vitamin D and thiamine (vitamin B1).
  10. In addition, the protocol calls for high-flow nasal oxygen to avoid mechanical ventilation which not only damages the lung but is associated with nearly a mortality rate of 90%.

Together this approach addresses the three core pathological processes seen in Covid 19, namely hyperinflammation, hypercoagulability of the blood, and hypoxia (shortness of breath due to low oxygenation).  Dr Paul Marik who made medical headlines in 2017 with his successful treatment of sepsis is a member of the group of critical care doctors who developed MATH + protocol, stated that it is important that doctors treat each patient as an individual as Covid 19 is not conventional acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).  And he added, “it’s not the virus that is hurting the host, it’s the acute inflammatory dysregulated response… that’s why you need to use vitamin C and steroids. Steroids plays a crucial role, as it creates synergy with vitamin C”.

In his United States Senate Testimony May 6th, Dr Kory told the Senators that the recent warnings by health organizations against the use of corticosteroids is a grave disservice because Covid 19 is a steroid-responsive disease. For instance, Dr Sorin Draghici, CEO of Advaita Bioinformatics and professor/associate dean for innovation at Wayne State Collage of Engineering just released the results of a study of different corticosteroids used in treating Covid 19. The top four were methylprednisolone, hydrocortisone, dexamethasone and prednisone. According to Dr Kory his group in April treated a group of 100 Covid 19 intensive care patients. They used the MATH + protocol.  They lost two patients who were in their eighties and had diabetes/heart conditions. Critically ill patients had a 98% survival rate. And don’t forget the Chinese trials in February where Dr Enqiang Mao of Ruijing Hospital/Jiatong University College of Medicine in Shanghai treated/studied fifty Covid 19 patients. None died. He and his team saved 50 out of 50. The only difference was he had used hydrocortisone, (instead of methylprednisolone), but the same vitamin C, and heparin. They also used oxygen (APAP sleep machine) and no ventilator.

June 19th International Business Times ran an article which stated that a just released study from China on the Covid 19 disease showed that while antibodies against the virus are produced, within eight weeks, the antibodies plummeted to undetectable levels in 40% of asymptomatic people compared with 12.9% of symptomatic people.  No antibodies. No vaccine. In addition, several prominent scientists are now saying that the etiology of the virus is not understood.

A simple “Google” search on how vaccines work emphasises that, “a vaccine works by training the immune system to recognize and combat pathogens, either viruses or bacteria.” So Belizeans, it’s your immune system that fights viruses.

Science has shown us how to deal with Covid-19 and does not need to be seen as a the threat it once was. Your first line of defence is a strong immune system.  And how do you get a strong immune system? Stop smoking; change your diet (stop eating processed foods  – those in cans, packages, and boxes, and sodas); stop consuming to much alcohol and sugar; turn off your Wi-Fi and cell phone (especially at night, the EMF waves damages your immune system); stop injecting with neurotoxins; stop taking toxic medications; get lots of sun; drink plenty of (filtered) water; and sleep good and sound for at least eight hours per night. In short, things we knew all along.

The work on vitamin c is also not new.  It is routinely prescribed for a variety of treatments, from anything from the common cold to snake bites and at higher levels that we normally take.  The treatments being offered for Covid-19 include a combination of vitamin c and steroids, with heparin, zinc and magnesium, as necessary.  This treatment costs about a hundred dollars and is being used in China, South Korea, Japan, Italy and some United States Hospitals.

Belizeans your life can be saved from Covid 19 for about one hundred bucks per treatment and all the drugs are in Belize at any drug store.

The question now is, why is the public narrative continuing to profess that there is nothing you can do to support your immune system, there is nothing in the natural arsenal for Covid 19, social distancing must be maintained at all times, and that the only cure for this terrifying infection will magically come from a vaccine created at warp speed? Belizeans, in our world the science, the biosciences have advanced spectacularly, yet this primitive coronavirus is being fought with medieval tools.  Belizeans just forget about vaccines. It is bull ***t.

But the damage to the global economy has been done. Millions of people have lost their livelihoods. Poverty and its ugliness is now a fact of life in Belize and the world.  In Part II, I will discuss the economic consequences of Covid-19 which has lifted the veil on Belizean economy/society.

[2] The “gain of function” is the spike glycoprotein containing a furin-like cleavage site which enables the virus to attach to the ACE2 human receptor and sometimes to surface positions capable of binding with cell membrane components other than ACE2 receptors.

May Day 2020

By Bill Lindo

Belize City, May 1st 2020: Today is International Labour Day. After over a 100 years the workers of the world were able to get governments throughout the world to establish by law, May 1st every year as a special day to celebrate workers, who are the creators of wealth in the world. (The United States of America is the only nation-state on planet earth that does not celebrate May 1st as Labour Day. They celebrate in September.)

But this year’s Labour Day is not being celebrated. Why? The entire world has gone mad over a corona virus which is supposed to cause a new disease they are calling Covid 19.  However, eventhough WHO has seen the evidence and read the many scientific studies done in China, Europe and Africa, they still refuse to acknowledge that Covid 19 is not a disease, but as Dr. G. Zuniga of Belize has said, a cluster of diseases called a syndrome.

The research has shown that Covid 19 not only damages the human lungs, but the heart, liver, kidney, guts, and brains. Doctors in China and especially those in New York have been saying that Covid 19 patients have symptoms that cannot be explained by “cytokine storms”.  Alan Kiliger from Yale School of Medicine has said that up to 30% of early-data patients from Wuhan and New York have lost kidney function and require dialysis. The main shortage in New York has turned to be dialysis volunteers and sterile fluids instead of ventilators. According to Dr. Kiliger, it seems the virus attaches to (ACE2 receptors) kidney cells and attacks them.

However, amongst scientists there is growing awareness that the Covid 19 latches on to different ACE 2 receptors in the body. The gastrointestinal tract has a hundred times more ACE 2 receptors than the lungs.  According to Brennan Spiegal (American Journal of Gastroenterology) this helps to explain the myriad of gastrointestinal symptoms recorded in patients – pain, diarrhea, vomiting and others. “What we’re learning is, it seems anyway, that this virus homes in on more than one organ system”, said Spiegel.

Claire Hopkins of the British Rhinological Society stated, “(t)he coronavirus can actually attack and invade olfactory nerve endings.” This causes a loss of smell – anosmia is the medical term. According to Hopkins, some anosmia Covid 19 patients have also experienced confusion, lower blood oxygen levels, and even loss of consciousness – a worrying sign that the virus may be able to travel through the olfactory nerve endings directly to our brains.

New York Doctors are reporting that close to 80% of patients that are put on ventilators die.  Ventilators are supposed to save lives by acting as artificial lungs not causing deaths. The Lancet says that the coronavirus blocks haemoglobin from exchanging carbon dioxide for oxygen – patients are losing oxygen content in their blood.

Everyday the mass media blasts our brain with misinformation – there is no known cure for Covid 19, but soon, very soon we will have a vaccine that will cure everyone. This mass media and establishment politicians who spout such silliness are not telling the truth.  We who were educated in the English speaking world know about the nursery rhyme of Humpty Dumpty. The Covid 19 that we know on April 24th 2020 is not a single disease but a cluster of diseases with HIV, SARS, and Influenza components causing heart, lungs, stroke, and other problems. This is a very hard target for a vaccine.

Our difficulties in 2020 are a problem of mind-set. After the oligarchs killed US President Jack Kennedy, Malcolm X, Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King, the population in especially the United States were so afraid that they willingly submitted to the changing of human values. As they said at the time – it was the end of the age of Pisces (reason) and the dawn of Aquarius (hedonism). After 1972, not only was the economic system changed – the beginning of the neo-liberal era – but more important, the underlying philosophy became the age of “reductionism” — the whole is equal to the sum of its parts. This oligarchical philosophy not only had devastating consequences in agriculture and the arts but it destroyed science as humans had known it from the previous 5,000 years.  Suddenly humans could never discover how nature works.

Yes, humans were still making discoveries in nature, but these scientists are of a different breed – they believed that the whole was always more than the sum of its parts.  In agriculture they built on the shoulders of the great thinkers of the 1930 to 1960’s and produced marvels of corn production at over 300 bushels per acre without rescued chemicals. In medicine doctors such as Dr. Steven R. Gundry, MD, a physician, medical researcher, and inventor of many devices to protect the heart during heart surgery, and Professor of Surgery and Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Loma Linda University School of Medicine, suddenly left all the honours, wealth, and fame to focus on Restorative Medicine and became a promoter of herbs and supplements – integrative medicine.

Then there is Dr. Thomas E. Levy, MD, JD also a medical researcher, a board-certified cardiologist and a lawyer. He studied law after he worked at a clinic with Dr. Hal Higgins and was disturbed by the treatment the American Medical Association was causing Higgins, his mentor. Dr. Hal Huggins was a dentist who revolutionised modern dental care for his non-traditional dental practice. Dr. Levy is known for his conclusion that all diseases ultimately start and are then propagated by increased “oxidative stress”.

A few weeks ago, the President of Madagascar, Andry Rajoelina proudly proclaimed that a herbal-tea Covid-Organics produced in Madagascar by the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research (MIAR) has been tested against Covid 19 and has been proven to work against the Covid 19. He has ordered it to be given to school children in Madagascar for free. Schools and businesses have all reopened in Madagascar because they have found an affordable local cure, and one that is not owned by foreigners but the people of Madagascar.  According to a medical doctor and head of the Soavindriana Hospital, the main herb in Covid-Organics is Artemesia Annua, or sweet worm wood, a Chinese plant imported to Madagascar in 1970 to treat malaria. In Chinese medicine, Artemesia Annua is known to help build and strengthen the immune system and is known to fight viruses. In the recent Covid 19 crisis in China, Artemesia Annua along with other Chinese herbs was used to successfully treat Covid 19 patients. In early April the Max Plank Institute in Germany announced the starting of a trial to use Artemesia Annua extracts to test its effectiveness against Covid 19.

And then there is that special vitamin which is not really a vitamin but a molecule that God gave to mankind to help humans to deal with our problems of free radicals and excess oxidative stress – yes, vitamin C. It is hated by most allopathic doctors, those who treat the symptoms of disease with drugs mostly made from coal tar. Homeopathy doctors look for the root cause of diseases and attack diseases with mostly natural medicine but will use drugs if they have to save lives – primum non nocere (first, do no harm).

In his 1753 book, A Treatise of the Scurvy, Dr. James Lind wrote about the substance in lemons and especially lime for the maintenance of a healthy human body (efficient uses of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates). Limes were made a part of the stores given to British seamen on their ocean journeys to prevent scurvy, a disease cause by malnutrition.  (This is where the term “limey” came from in relation to British Navy seamen). In 1937 the Nobel Prize in medicine was awarded to Hungarian-American Albert Szent-Gyorgyi, MD, PhD for his discovery of vitamin C in connection with biological combustion. The chemical name for vitamin C is ascorbic acid which reflects its anti-scurvy properties.

In a 1978 paper, Szent-Gyorgyi proposed a theory of life such that the proteins of the body must be maintained in a state of electron desaturation.  All matter has varying proportions of electron, protons, and neutrons.  Vitamin C is the main systemic extracellular antioxidant, and when given at high doses, either orally (3-10 gr/d) or intravenously (10-50 gr/d, etc.), can function as an antioxidant to prevent toxicity from ROS and viruses. When oxidized through donating an electron to reduce an ROS, it can be regenerated through a variety of mechanisms, including reducing enzymes and other antioxidants. Because ascorbic acid is a generous donor of electrons, this molecule is supreme in its ability to scavenge free radicals.

Vitamin C can support intracellular antioxidants such as GSH (glutathione) and catalase when the load of ROS is severe. Vitamin C can regenerate GSH when depleted by severe stress. The role of catalase is mainly to reduce hydrogen peroxide.   However catalase and SOD are large molecules and do not serve the same role as vitamin C (ascorbate) which is a small molecule and can donate electrons to any ROS that it contacts, including oxidized vitamin E and many other molecules that may get damaged by ROS — in either the intracellular or extracellular space.

Vitamin C also empowers the immune system, promoting chemotaxis, growth, and activity of some immune cells (macrophages, lymphocytes, natural killer cells) allowing the body to more effectively fight an infection.  Vitamin C has many other roles in which it functions as a specific co-factor for biochemical reactions. Thus, it is essential for recovery from damage caused by viral or bacterial infections, as well as for the normal functioning of the brain and many essential biochemical pathways.

Overall, vitamin C has a variety of effects (i.e. “pleotropic”) that are not duplicated by intracellular antioxidants. It supports intracellular antioxidants and is necessary as a specific co-factor in many critical biochemical reactions in many organs of the body. Since vitamin C has a similar structure to glucose (sugar), taking Vitamin C you shouldn’t consume any sugar because glucose will be transferred more easily into cells than ascorbic acid and send the ascorbic acid to the bladder.

Iron can act in conjunction with vitamin C to cause a powerful oxidation reaction (the “Fenton reaction”) that generates free radicals. For individuals who are iron-overloaded, vitamin C can cause this problem and can generate hydrogen peroxide throughout the body.  This dual function of anti- vs. pro-oxidants is thought to be dose- and level-dependent. What dose should be the best, given that a low IV dose is thought to provide anti-oxidation, but a high dose is thought to provide pro-oxidation? Which action is working best against a virus? This question is at the cutting edge of current research.

For some individuals with a mutation in the Glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase (G6P6) gene, high levels of vitamin C in their bloodstream can cause anemia and lysis of their red blood cells. This genetic issue is found most commonly in individuals with African or Middle Eastern descent.  If you have G6P6 please speak to your doctor.

Research and development of vaccines and virus specific drugs takes at least a few years to develop and deployed for worldwide use — if indeed possible. There has never been a vaccine available to stop an ongoing major pandemic in the history of mankind. We didn’t have vaccine for SARS, nor MERS. We can’t expect a vaccine for most of the world’s population anytime soon for Covid-19. This is due to the nature of the process: vaccines are always in reaction to a new outbreak, and R&D of vaccines takes a long time. Even if a vaccine for Covid-19 does become available, it will be too late and the world will likely be affected by major chaos with lives lost and economies damaged. It’s clear that with our current thinking (reductionism) it’s not practical.

Belize’s political, medical and merchant leaders need to consider this very carefully. We must face the reality of the current crisis and look elsewhere for more proactive, effective and practical ways for preventing and stopping major pandemics like Covid-19. The integrative medical approach, which employs safe supplements of vitamin C, vitamin D, and zinc and other nutrients is highly relevant. This approach is a proactive, effective and eminently practical way to deal with the present pandemic. Treatment with high-dose vitamin C has been widely utilized by hospital ERs and ICUs to prevent death from Covid 19 in China, New York City, Italy, South Korea and United Kingdom.   As Dr. Weber from New York City told a reporter from the New York Post, Vitamin C is not a sexy drug or vaccine but it works.  Dr. Mao from a leading hospital in Shanghai wrote in March 2020 that he tried high dose vitamin C on 50 patients with Covid 19. None died.

As of today (May 1st 2020) Belize had 18 confirmed cases of Covid 19. Two persons died. For over 21 days, no new cases have been reported. Eventhough government has extended the state of emergency until the end of June, on Monday May 4th most businesses and all government offices will be re-opened. This is good as the local economy has collapsed. In just one week the entire tourism sector completely collapsed. Belize now has over 30,000 permanent unemployed workers. Belize City has close to 8,000 without jobs from the tourism sector. These people need new jobs. Tourism will be dead in Belize for at least the next 2 years according to the UNCTAD.

Government can keep the borders closed and keep our local economy open, including schools. Give everyone including children nutritional supplements and our immune system will deal with Covid 19. Belize is an Independent nation-state. Start acting like we rule ourselves.

Easter in Belize 2020

By Bill Lindo

Belize City, April 7th 2020: this Friday is Good Friday, the holiest day for believers in Jesus the Christ. Some 1,987 years ago, Jesus was crucified on a wooden cross by the Roman Emperor, Tiberius for high crimes against the Empire of Rome. His crime was to preach against the money-changers – the bankers. And remember, before St Paul and St. Augustine change the nature or purpose of Christianity, Jesus had preach that “… and forgive them their debts”. It was Paul and Augustine who change it to forgive them their sins in the after-life. Jesus had demanded that Israel return to the Jubilee – forgiveness’ of debt.

A new virus, a coronavirus called SAR-Cov2, or Covid 19 have cause the entire population of the World to shut-down human activates. Airplanes are idle, ships are mostly in ports, construction has stopped, the roads, the highways are deserted, people are trapped in homes, factories are shuttered, and tourists have completely disappeared from the scene in Belize.

Belize’s economy now has a $ 400 million hole. And government announce this Monday that some 44,000 persons have applied for the $ 75/week subsidy all because of a molecule we call Covid 19. But has this virus been worse than say the common influenza, the deaths from diabetes, heart problems or cancer? We don’t know. It depends on which “expert” we ask.

In times of old, we use to let nature takes it course. We didn’t shut down the economy because of pandemics. Now we are fighting a “war” against a virus. In times of war, personal “rights” are taken away, lives are destroy because we must unite, we must suffer against the common enemy.  People don’t spend so the economy collapses, but Belize’s economy was already on life-support before the virus appeared on our shores. We were in a recession. Now we are going into a depression (over 25% unemployment). And our leaders are running around like chickens without a head.

But I must write that I was happy to hear in an interview with Hon. Manuel Heredia of San Pedro and Caye Caulker say that the citizens of those islands need to forget about tourism for a year or more and instead return to how they earned their livelihoods before, from fishing. Minister, you are thinking.

In the rural areas of Cayo, Toledo, and Stann Creek, most will have to return to farming. Corozal and Orange walk, including Belize district will have serious problems with farming. Belize is now in the dry season. When it normally ends in late May, the likelihood of rain coming will be slim. The experts are saying we will have another drought this year. From 1954, the American soil scientists knew that soils with poor nutrition suffer horribly when fresh water is less like a scarcity of rain or lack of irrigation. Farmers, fix your soils and you will only need a little fresh water to grow your crops.

In an economy that is functioning for the “common good” science teaches us that man (the farmer) must control the putting on and taking off of water along with proper nutrients and biology in the soil. With this principle in mind, government must create – build canals for both drainage and irrigation of farm crops.

Now don’t say we don’t have money. Money don’t fall from trees. It is created by humans. The back-stop on money creation is government. Due to this c virus, our government is committed to obtain some $ 150 million dollars from the Central Bank. We can build some 3,000 miles of canals for the farmers of Belize. Some of the money will have to be US Dollars. Belize can borrow it from Taiwan our friend to buy machinery from them. And if they refused? I am certain, big China will accede to our request for soft loans to buy machinery to build canals for our farmers and at the same time create useful jobs for the 44,000 who are out of a job.

If our unity government refused then you know that they can never be voted for again. One day elections will return to Belize. The citizens will remember those who talk and those who acted. It is nearly one month since the panic begun and the vaunted tourism sector collapse in one week. But not one of the 44,000 out-of-work work have gotten any help. Shame. But the banks and the large companies have already been bailout. Shame.

Now some ideas and facts about this c virus. Everyone will not catch it. Heart, diabetes, and cancer will kill more Belizeans than the Covid 19. And this will be the same in the future. Viruses have been with mankind from the beginning of time and they will be with us at the end. Humankind have found no weapon such as drugs or vaccines to kill viruses.  We have antibiotics to kill bacteria, but our greed is slowly destroying the usefulness of antibacterial drugs. The bacteria’s are becoming resistant to the antibiotics because we over use them especially in the raising of chickens. It seems our greed has no bounds.

There will be no vaccines to kill the Covid 19, at least not for the next 2 years or more. The hype is a con game to force the governments of the world to create some $ 7 trillion dollars and give to the giant pharmaceutical companies. It is a dream. Why? A vaccine does not kill viruses. Instead, it trains your immune system to go after and kill certain viruses. The Covid 19 has a SAR, influenza, and HIV components. Plus it keeps mutating like all viruses. Now let the bright fellows tell me how you will train my immune system to attack such a moving target. The current vaccine for the 2019/2020 flu season can only attack 2 strains of the flu coronavirus. But the American CDC says the current flu virus has at least several strains/types.  US National Centre for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) in August 7th 2017 wrote; “The rapid mutations of influenza A virus results in the loss of vaccine optimal efficacy, and challenge the complete eradication of the virus.”   And then Dr Shira Miller of Physicians of informed Consent (PIC) released a study on a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Study in 2011 concerning aluminium in vaccines. The new study found that a math error was made in the FDA study which assume that 8 times more aluminium can safely enter the blood stream. This explain why modern vaccines have such problem when aluminium adjuvant is use to activate the human immune systems.

Last week in the Amandala, Clinton Canul Luna wrote a very accurate historical article that the Rockefellers and Andrew Carnegie (plus J P Morgan) created the modern medical industry of drugs, doctors trained only to dispensed drugs, and schools that pushed the line that only drugs can help modern man.  The big boys are good. The same oligarchical families that control big oil, own and control the fertilizer factories that push junk to unsuspecting farmers that create the bugs, then they sell you the “crop protection” called pesticides that make the situation worst, then humans eat the worthless garbage they call food which makes them sick, then the drugs are given to prolong their miserable lives. Every modern disease – cancer, diabetes, hypertension, autoimmune can all be cured – not by drugs but by eating good nutrient-dense foods and holistic methods such as fasting.

Now for the 95% of Belizeans. If your immune system is strong, Covid 19 will not kill you. If you smoke, drink and vape your immune system will be weak and Covid 19 will give you a hard time. If your child is under 10 years old, they will survive because their immune system will make use of the melatonin in their bodies.

If you are over 65 years old you will have problems because of: 1. As Dr Stephanie Seneff of MIT (who was in Belize to advice farmers about the dangers of glyphosate) wrote: “I would wager that glyphosate disrupts the collagen-like stalk of the lung.”  Old people have been eating foods containing glyphosate for very long time. 2. And as Dr Seneff wrote: “I was wondering why the elderly are suffering much more sepsis and cytokine storm during COVID 19 infections. A significant difference in older patients compare to younger patients is their melatonin levels.”  Remember our gut bacteria also produce tryptophan via the shikimate pathway, so glyphosate will reduce the bioavailable of tryptophan as a precursor to melatonin. 3. Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitors increase expression of ACE2 and Covid 19 infects host cells by binding to ACE2 (protein) receptors found on cells in your lungs, intestines, kidneys and blood vessels. Therefore those on ACE inhibitor drugs must be extremely careful of Covid 19.

According to research done on Covid 19 in China, South Korea and Italy and publish in the Italian magazine Evolutamente, Medical researcher Doris Loh, wrote that “Melatonin, nitric oxide and ascorbic acid can reduce Covid 19 virulence by inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasomes to stop the perpetuation of cytokine storms.”

Now how to build your immune system?

                                             Maintain                             Mild Sick               Hospital/Lung Impair

  1. Vitamin B1          50 mg/day                          150 mg/12 hr        200 mg/12 hr (IV)
  2. Vitamin C             6 gram/day                        15 gram/12 hr             20 – 200grams (IV)
  3. Vitamin D3          2,000 IU/day                     5,000 IU/day                     10,000 IU (IV)
  4. Magnesium         200 mg/day                       300 mg/day                       400 mg (IV)
  5. Zinc                       10 mg/day                          20 mg/day                          50 mg  (IV)
  6. Melatonin           2 mg/day                            5 mg/day                            30 mg  (IV)
  7. Hydrocortisone  —–                                     25 mg /6 hr                  50 mg/6 hr (IV)

Notes: In hospital if need an anti-coagulant, use Heparin with IVC.  Vitamin C in hospital IV can only be given as sodium ascorbate.  Your pharmacist can compound it from l-ascorbate plus sodium bicarbonate.  And remember, the sicker the patient, the more vitamin C is needed. It is very dose dependent and operate by dynamic flow. Oral doses of Vitamin C must be in divided doses. No one eats all their food at once. It is divided into 3 or more times per day. Taking less than 6 grams per day is a waste of time. In China and South Korea every patient who was given Ascorbic Acid for Covid 19 is alive today. NOT one person died.

The End of an Era

By Bill Lindo

Belize City, Mar24th, 2020: Readers our world as we know it is rapidly coming to an end. The Covid 19 is now officially in Belize.  Belize was one of the last seven country to officially declare that citizens were infected with Covid 19.

An old saying is that if you build your house on sand, it will not be strong or last a long time.  For more than 40 + years I have complained that tourism as a foundation for our economy was wrong. Why? As Belizeans we were putting half our eggs in one of two baskets. From since 1985 we have been spending hundreds of millions of dollars every year for infrastructural support for tourism.  And the bad part is that the tourism sector is mostly owned by foreigners. All that Belize got was a few measly jobs at low pay.  Now it’s all gone.

In this article I will look at two things – the two horsemen of the Apocalypse are now in Belize. A coronavirus Covid 19 and a collapsing economy. Let’s deal with the economy first.

The economy is based on three pillars – agriculture, manufacturing and tourism. The agricultural sector grows food stuff for local consumption and for exports. The export section has for the last three years or more been suffering from decrease productivity and from low prices. The Mennonites who dominate the local agricultural domestic section in rice, corn, chicken, pork, beef, and beans have been having huge productivity problems for several years because of their method of farming which is basically mining the soil. Now the chickens are coming to roost. This same mining of the soils is causing a lack of proper nutrition and a lack of fresh water – a drought. The same is true in both the sugar cane and citrus sections for exports. Some workers in the sugar section are the only one who will lose their income in the agricultural section due to drought, not Covid 19.

In the manufacturing sector, the processing of cane, orange and grapefruit into sugar and citrus concentrate is not doing well because of lack of raw materials. The soft drinks and beer section was doing well until the total collapse of the tourism section.  The milling of wheat to flour is in good shape and now have to do some overtime as the panic buying of flour catches the manufacture off-guard. The small scale production of furniture, fresh juices, coconut oil and sandwich meats such as sausages are still limping along as they fight stiff foreign completion.  We now have a good excuse to protect these small manufacturers because they employ Belizeans.  Shut down the foreign imports. This the extent of our manufacturing industries. Maybe some 200 workers will lose jobs in this section of our economy due to the collapse of tourism.

Now the tourism section is in deep trouble. As I write since March 14th, 2020 about 7,000 persons are without a job. In the next week that will increase to over 10,000 and by the end of May it will be over 25,000 persons without a job. No income. 14% of employed workers. Some $ 300 million dollars out of an economy of $ 4 billion by the end of May, 2020.

Everyone who had any interest in the financial system knew that the current global financial system was rotten and set to blow. A trigger was necessary. A pandemic became the trigger. But this pandemic is not as serious as the establishment news media is making out.

The big boys are creating panic in order to cover the bailout of their bankrupt financial system. The United States Senate cannot pass a bill to give every American $ 1,200.00 each because in the bill is a provision to bail out corporate America to the tune of close to $ 11 trillion dollars. Some Senators are refusing to bailout the large companies.

Let’s look at facts. Not propaganda. The scrip was in place for this pandemic from the year 2010 in a report by the Rockefeller Foundation.  Then last year, in New York City on October 18th 2019, the Bill & Melinda Gates, and World Economic Forum (the 1% owners of the World) held a high level pandemic exercise called Event 201. Most everything said at the Event 201 and the Rockefeller Report are going on with Covid 19.  About a week ago the Chinese government accuse the American government of causing Covid 19 in Wuhan, China last December. Of course the United States deny the Chinese claim.

As at the writing of this article (March 24th) some 415,000 persons are affected and about 18,500 persons have died worldwide.  According to Event 201, about 65 million should die from this coronavirus.

Based on data from China, and Italy; China had about 0.00005% of its population infected, and 4% of the infected died. While in Italy some 9.5% of its population got infected and 9% of those infected died.  Of the 9% who died most were over 65 years old with many health problems such as heart, diabetes, blood pressure, kidney and other underlying problems. Italy has several differences from China.

One, Chinese population is healthier, eating better nutrient-dense food. Chinese don’t eat raw vegetable because of serious contamination. Chinese eat lots of vegetable, all cooked. And most important, is the mind-set. Chinese doctors are trained that their duty is to save life. They will do anything and try any herb, traditional medicine, and any drug to save a human life, especially an old person. Italy like most of the Western world, usually put money and other consideration before human lives, and view old people as useless eaters.

Recently I have been reading reports from the Chinese Medical Association (medjournals.cn) and one article called: Expert consensus on comprehensive treatment of coronavirus disease in Shanghai 2019 (http://rs.yiigle.com/m/yufabiao/1183266.htm) I write about this so our health personal can read and understand that the Chinese have a much better record of saving human beings from Covid 19 than the rest of the world because they have an open mind. They have use all the drugs suggested by the American CDC and tell you some are good and most are a waste of time. Their traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine have worked very well for them. And the cheap vitamin which most Western trained doctor hates, (vitamin C) have saved a lot of lives, especially the old people. I have read a transcript of an interview by a Doctor Enqian Mao, at Ruijin Hospital, Joatong University College of Medicine, in Shanghai, China. Dr Mao said he treated 50 patients with high dose vitamin C at 10 grams/day for moderate and 20 grams/day for severe cases 7 to 10 days in February 2020.   All patients receive IVC and there was no mortality. There were also no side effects with IV vitamin C. Most of those treated with drugs have been having 10% or more defective lung function. The cost of 10 days IV vitamin C treatment is some USD $ 240.00 for the IV solution, including buffers, etc. – not doctor or hospital costs. Heparin was used with the vitamin C for patients with coagulation issues.

Belizeans, we are poor and most can never afford drugs. The vitamin C is cheap. Think of it. One caveat, high dose vitamin C of over 6 grams can only be given by IV in a hospital.  For the last 70 years vitamin C have proven itself capable of destroying ever virus that has affected mankind. And, by- the-way, on January 10th, 2020 sciencedirect.com publish an article in the journal Vaccine, Vol. 38, issue 2 called: Influenza vaccination and respiratory virus interference among Department of Defense personnel during the 2017 – 2018 influenza season. Read it on the internet. It is saying that those who took flu vaccine had increase risks of other respiratory problems with other virus, such as coronavirus. A process called virus interference.  And even the American CDC says that flu vaccines are only 40% effective. So, why push vaccines on an un-suspecting people? For money?

Knowing all the above why the panic? Why not tell the people of Belize the truth?  Belize have some 400,000 persons. If our precautions are lousy like Italy we will have some 38,000 persons infected and following Italy, about 3,400 will die, mostly those who are sick and older. But we may be lucky and if our health personal use the open-mind way of thinking like the Chinese we will have 1,500 or less die.  As humans made in the image of our Creator, we can use the best that have been used in China, South Korea, and Italy. We don’t have to make the same mistakes that others have made.  We can keep this to 600 or less Belizeans who die.

But even if we bury our head in the sand, and cause some 3,000 persons to die we don’t have to shut down the entire economy. The tourism section of our economy is finish. No tourists will return to this country for two or more years.  This will cause about 25,000 persons to need some income. (Last week I wrote that 19,000 workers would be affected. I was corrected that the amount is 25,000). As a country, those 25,000 workers need an income. They must eat.  It will take some 5 months to 2 years to employ all of them in other pursuits. Last week Singapore Prime Minister spoke to his nation and said that by April his government will start re-training workers for the new reality.

We have already bailout our bankers and other large companies in Belize. The neoliberals are doing a great job. Not a single money or food or other help for the 7,000 workers who have no income, but help for the big boys. Gov. Cuomo of New York State said today you cannot sacrifice human life to get the stock market going. There is no value on human life. Hear Mr Neoliberals.

There is only two choices for Belize. While we keep our social distance, drink some 4 gram of Vitamin C per day, and clean hands, we have to start working by April 14th after Easter. And most of all, print or create through the Central Bank money for 15,000 workers at $ 200 per week for 8 weeks so they can buy food and get by until we get the economy going again.  That is $ 24 million dollars. And ask Taiwan for 1% interest loans to buy machinery from them so we can create lots of small businesses to employ those who use to work in tourism. Taiwan make some of the best machinery in the world.  But remember, capital controls must be strict. The merchants who end up with the $ 24 million dollars will try to exchange it for United States dollars and let it flee to their foreign accounts.  Jail them if they try. The “common good” comes before any individual rights. Human life has no price in money terms. And don’t stop the infrastructure constructions ongoing. Just try to use more local materials and other local inputs.

Belizeans, either we create a new Renaissance in Belize or a new Dark Age. Out with the failed neoliberal policies. Remember we are in the mess because of them.  Stop putting the rats to mind the cheese.

Belize and the COVID 19 in March 2020

By Bill Lindo

Belize City, March 17th, 2020:– Wow!! Today is very interesting to be alive. In Belize our economy have tanked – It’s in an official recession – agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism are all in decline.  Meanwhile, a coronavirus (COVID-19) is threating to kill millions, is already destroying the global economy and has become the trigger to bring down the global financial system. As at Monday, the pneumonia outbreak has infected 167,000 persons globally with 3,218 dead in China, 1809 in Italy, 852 in Iran, 77 in South Korea, and 292 in Spain; or a total of 3,170 persons outside of China death. Panic buying is now occurring in Belize, Hong Kong, Germany, Italy, Australia, and most other cities in the world. The items disappearing from supermarket shelves are hand wipes, toilet paper, surgical masks, can foods, and others.

Two things are happening at the same time, which makes the current situation so dangerous. The citizens of the world is facing a global pandemic and at the same time the collapse of the global financial system. The last time these two horsemen of the Apocalypse came together was in Eurasia from the years 1340 – 1500.

For the last 40 years this writer has been educating Belizeans about the difference between the British and American School or Political Economy of Capitalism. In past articles some eight fundamental differences were highlighted. Indeed, that great American, Alexander Hamilton who created the American System based it on the revolutionary premise that a sovereign government must be responsible for assuring the “general welfare” of the population, not necessary by owning the means of production, but by assuring that the people and the entrepreneurs have access to water, power, transportation, education, cheap finance, and health care.

When I say the current financial system is collapsing it mean the financial system put in place since 1971 by the City of London and Wall Street – the floating exchange rate system of speculation and gambling is collapsing – the neoliberal system of austerity, privatization, free trade and globalization. This past Sunday US President Trump called an unprecedented press conference to announce that the US Fed was going to lower interest rates to 0.25% or near Zero.  Wow! Free money.  Plus the US Fed would be able to buy toxic assets from the banks. A bailout. But Monday (March 16th) the New York Market wanted more. Much more. The huge (USD $ 1.2 quadrillion) derivatives were blowing out. The dam had burst. This crazy speculation and the gutting of the great capacity of the once great America was destroyed by the self-destruction of production –agriculture and manufacturing.

Some 36 years ago, our Belize was well on its way to high tech agriculture and manufacturing, but the same forces who destroy the United States was at work in Belize.  Little by little the FIRE (finance, insurance and real estate) sector took over the economy such that the overhead imposed on our economy was close to 36% by 2018.  In the United States it is some 40%. It just has to blow. The FIRE sector is too greedy. At 40% overheads, production slowly dies and with it living standards and then the Horsemen of the Apocalypse comes in the form of pandemics.

Yesterday, Monday the Prime Minister of Belize and the Leader of the Opposition held a jointed press conference to announce certain measures for when the COVID 19 puts its hooks in Belize. As at March 16th 2020 Belize had no cases of COVID 19.  Belize has a population of some 400,000 persons. Health persons believed that about 100,000 Belizeans will in the next year be infected with the c-virus. Of this amount some 6 % or 6,000 persons will die.  According to the press conference Belize is trying to get prepared. Buying test kits, ventilators, masks, cover garments and some drugs. The government will create, borrow and spend about $ 75 million over the next 3 months or so; but only spend 10% or less on COVID 19. The rest? To bailout the bankrupt FIRE sector.

Most of the money will be spend to bailout the local bankers. Very little if any money will be spend on the most vulnerable sector of Belize’s population – the workers and lumpen proletariat (roots people). The tourism sector is collapsing in Belize today. No ships. No overnight tourist. Little restaurant traffic. Some 19,000 workers will be affected. Belize City as at March 16th already has more than 2,000 workers without a job.  But little help for them, but mucho help for the foreign owners and their creditors the foreign bankers. But if neoliberals are in charge what to expect.

At the press conference, several media houses ask pointedly if the national owned electricity and water companies will find a way to help especially the workers who are already unemployed and the soon to be fired workers. But the solution has eluded our political leaders. Private shareholder interests have priority.

Last year Belize imported about $ 2 billion dollars’ worth of goods and exported some $ 400 million leaving a trade deficit of $ 1.6 billion dollars. We made up the difference by foreign investment, foreign loans, illegal activities like drugs and money laundering, and tourism.  Tourism have now disappeared and we are left with a hole of about $ 400 million. Which finger will plug that hole?

If the health people are correct Belize will need at least capacity for 200 patients at any time in ICU’s. We have a current capacity for 8 persons.  And those tests from PAHO, Roche, etc. are worthless. They are testing for RNA based on PCR cycles. A few months ago, the Chinese suspect something was wrong with those tests, so they decided to make their own test for COVID 19. The invented their own test and gave the design, etc. to the World for free to help humankind. An American company in North Carolina named BioMedonics is now making the Chinese tests. They are about 99% accurate, and give a result in 15 minutes or less using blood, not swabs.  But in our little Belize, we are so full of hate and foolishness, we want nothing to do with China and feel the bacra man knows everything – a ground god. Belizeans, wake up. China had over 80,000 cases and they conquered it in less than 2 – 3 months, by using science, political will for the welfare of the common man/woman, and an open mind.  Hong Kong, last week gave away test kits developed in China to 40 countries in Africa for free.

Belizeans, don’t worry, COVID 19 will come to Belize. When? In time. It is spread like the common cold/flu. Your immune system if strong will fight it and defeat it. But if you lose your job and cannot buy healthy foods, your immune system will be compromise and you will get very sick and maybe die.  One good thing, the junk foods will soon run out at the shops and supermarkets. Our foreign exchange is running low, very low, so imports of junk will become a problem.

Now that two of the horsemen of the Apocalypse are near to our Belize it is time to throw out the axioms of the neoliberal thinking and turn to the greatest system of capitalism. To what was known in the nineteen century as the American system of Alexander Hamilton, Abe Lincoln, Henry Carey and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

First, no citizen of Belize must go hungry. The 2,000 persons who have lost their jobs in tourism must get a wage. They have to eat. They are human beings made in the image of the Creator. Jobs must be created at once. Our political leaders are going to create about $ 20 million of new money to bailout foreign bankers. Crazy!!

If we pay the 2,000 just fired workers $ 250 per week for 6 months it will be $ 12 million dollars. Now please understand, no one will be given money as a hand-out. They have to work.  Most of them can do trade work. Belize has to build at least two hospitals with at least 200 capacity ICU units. Some of the 2,000 can be employed there in the construction and as staff. And soon there will be another 4,000 or so workers who lose an income from tourism. We can set up small factories to employ at least 6,000 from making real fruit juices, to making surgical masks, to making electric wire, plastic goods to producing simple steel for construction. Most small factories will take about 4 to 6 months to be establish.

Belize import about $ 20 million worth of “unhealthy” cooking oil/fats every year. Belize is blessed with the best oil God have made for human consumption – coconut oil. Why can’t we save that $ 20 million dollars and produce our own oil and save not only valuable foreign exchange but employ our own citizens and make our population healthy?

Let’s call a spade a spade. There is at March 16th NO COVID 19 virus in Belize.  Our political leaders have committed us to borrow and beg about $ 40 million, move $ 15 million around in the new budget and create new money of about $ 20 million – a total of $ 75 million dollars. Now we have about 2,000 workers who were fired from the tourism sector over the weekend. And over the next month or so another 4,000 will lose their jobs, income. None, not one cent of the $ 75 million will be spend to employ or support those 2,000 plus 4,000 workers. Then we will fire at Ports of Belize some waterfront workers.  By the end of April 2020 about 8,000 or more Belizeans will lose their income, their livehood.

This is not just a financial collapse, but a collapse of the physical economy. Plus the almost certain death of over 6,000 of our fellow Belizeans because of the wrong policies.  The economy that feeds us, cloth us, and house us is collapsing before our very eyes.  There will be a huge social explosion in this country. Do they expect Chester to cope with this blowout? Our political leaders are set in their neoliberal mind-set neglecting the real world.  It was made very clear yesterday at the press conference that the vast majority of the $ 75 million dollars is to bailout the corrupt bankrupt financial sector of Belize. Little if any will be spend on the COVID 19. In fact the COVID 19 is a cover to bail out the rotten FIRE sector that’s why we need a financial genius. Everyone in Belize knows that one of the commercial banks is facing problems. They are afraid of what they call contagion. But the fired workers? Well!

The COVID 19 when it comes to Belize will most likely stay for perhaps a year or more. It is time for a new paradigm. The only solution is if our political leaders throw out the axioms of the neoliberal model with its emphasis of monetarist i.e., speculators’ profits.  So, we must produce not only what we eat, but what we wear, and how we are housed. Soon you will hear about the agriculture sector collapsing because of drought. BULL.  The solution is stop mining the soil and feed the soil with the proper nutrients and at the same time build permanent canals to put on and take off fresh water when needed.  And you will need some 3,000 workers to build the canals. Jobs, Jobs. Easy to create.  No? Then tell the people why you are against their interests!

The new emphasis must be the absolute value of human life, the principles of science, and solidarity with the entire family of mankind. This means that the physical economy comes first. And the independence of Belize is always first.

Create a Renaissance in Belize NOW.

Belize and the World in Early March 2020

By Bill Lindo

Belize City, March 3rd, 2020:– Wow!! Today is very interesting to be alive. In Belize our economy have tanked – It’s in a recession – agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism are all in retreat.  The ruling United Democratic Party (UDP) is in a mess. No leader to replace outgoing PM Barrow, with about 7 of 19 members of the House of Representatives threating to resign if Hon. Patrick Faber is made the new Leader of the UDP. The only political party in Belize’s history to win 3 general election back to back since Independence. Now looking to disintegrate before our very eyes.  Meanwhile the opposition party, the People’s United party (PUP) recently held a massive demonstration of over 10,000 against the Government. The last time the PUP had this much support in the streets was in 1995.

In the global arena, a coronavirus (COVID-19) is threating to kill thousands and is already destroying the global economy and looking to become the trigger to bring down the global financial system. As at Monday, the pneumonia outbreak has claimed 2,943 dead in China, 80,150 with the virus, and 47,204 recovered. Outside of China 126 persons have died and over 7,800 confirmed cases.  Panic buying is now occurring in Hong Kong, Germany, Italy, Australia, Brooklyn, NY and other cities in the USA. The items disappearing from supermarket shelves are bottled water, toilet paper, surgical masks, can foods, and others.

We have a saying – “nothing is new under the Sun”. This global collapse and threatening COVID-19 pandemic happened in Eurasia in the years 1300 to 1450. According to most Western historians, the early Middle Ages in Europe and the Near East were times of high economic expansion. But because of stagnant technology, growing population and climate change (little ice age, from 1275 – 1600) those forces cause prolong recession, plus the effects of the Black Death (1347-1351) created a huge decline in population.  But Reinhold Mueller and the renowned history Prof Frederic C. Lane in their book “The Venetian Money Market 1200 – 1500” wrote “ …the general atmosphere of speculation probably made them and bankers think of wider horizons and larger profit margins. Insolvency and failure were the end results.”

The Venetian and Florence bankers created what Edwin S. Hunt called the medieval super-companies who destroyed the economies of Eurasia because of speculation – gambling.  Around the year 1300 Eurasia’s economy had been devastated by the panics caused by the Italian bankers in their drive for higher profit margins. Within 30 years, the general health of Eurasia’s population had declined due to lack of work, and proper nutrient. Then the Black Death of 1347 – 1351 killed between 75 million to 200 million (one-third to half of the entire population of) people in Eurasia. It was the worst pandemic in human history. The book, Decameron describes how people lived at the time of the Black Death.

Already the results of the current speculation of London and Wall Street is being felt in Europe and Asia courtesy of COVID-19. If this virus becomes a pandemic, it may become a “Lehman Brothers moment” and blowout the trans-Atlantic financial system. The economies of the entire trans-Atlantic sector are all very depressed. Now automotive and engineering products are none existent as China have not supply then for this quarter.  Our system is based on financializing and securitizing consumption while globalizing and cheapening production.  The just in-time production system have crash. China cannot supply raw and intermediate materials to auto, machinery, and especially consumer producers in South Korea, Germany, and Vietnam.

Let’s put this COVID-19 in proper perspective. In China it is killing about 2% of those who get the pneumonia. The experts are saying the when the COVID-19 arrives in especially the countries with less robust health than China, the kill-ratio will increase. Facts. No drug nor vaccine exists to kill viruses. Once a virus infects a human being, it is his/her immune system that will destroy the virus. Some drugs may increase the strength of our immune system so that it may destroy the virus. China is not controlled by the wealthy pharmaceutical corporations. The noise from the big drug companies and their allies in the media have been telling people to wash their hands, keep away from sick persons, and hope that soon a drug or vaccine will be invented to save you. China’s government is testing drugs and vaccine plus over 1,000 traditional Chinese herbs. Last week they announced that 12,000 patients have agreed to undergo tests with high dose intravenous (IV) vitamin C of 26,000 mg per day.

The effectiveness of vitamin C in preventing and relieving the symptoms of virus induced respiratory infections (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nhi.gov/pubmed/10543583).  Nobel Chemistry winner, Prof Linus Pauling did many research on vitamin C.  Vitamin C taken by mouth at 2,000 mg/day is critical to handle oxidative stress, is a powerful antioxidant, and to fight pathogens such as viruses. Certain foods such as lemons, bone broth, garlic, onions, coconut oil, ginger, and apple cider vinegar will keep your immune system in good condition. But remember, sugar (carbs) and vitamin C are antagonistic.

Belize is a country with some 60% of its population living in poverty. This means that a majority of Belizeans lack a properly functioning immune system. When the COVID-19 comes to Belize, experts are silently saying that some 5% — 10% of those infected will die because of our poor health system and our population poor health.

Belize imports about 70% of what it consumes. We do not make anything in this country. Merchants and lawyers run our country. Let’s see how we will survive when the goods run out and there is none to buy. Italy and South Korea are already in recession due to closures of their factories and lack of supplies from China.

And the recession in Belize will get much worst. Drought and climate change are now being blamed for the mess in agriculture – sugar, citrus, corn, soybeans, bananas and other crops. Bull. It is the fault of the farmers who listen to the experts from the huge multinational corporations – Bayer, DuPont, BASF and Dow. In 1955 Prof William A. Albrecht, PhD wrote that the US 1953 drought was not caused by a lack of fresh water but as a result of improper nutrition in the soil.  If you fly over the United States Midwest some farms are greener than others. In fact, some fields look a yellowish green. The cause is always the same – lack of proper nutrition in the soil.

Belizeans, as long as we continue doing what we are currently doing, we will never provide a standard of living for human beings. And let’s be clear. It is not your fault. It is the neo-liberal political/economic system that is causing your misery. Stop being a slave!!

Take the case of Mike Ashcroft, the Englishman. He wants total control of our beloved Belize. Now he wants to save Belizeans from themselves. He presumes to know how to fix our electoral system. Bull. He is after Hon. Said Musa and Hon. Dean Barrow. He is angry with both because they both refuse to completely bow to him. But in our mist we have a lot of treason. They want his money. Money that we Belizeans have allowed him to create out of thin air. He does not have money. We have given him the authority to create money. What is given can be taken away. Tell this bacra man that Belize is no longer a colony of the British.  George Price gave us political Independence.  Dean Barrow gave us financial Independence (National Bank of Belize). Please, for God’s sake, let us keep our Independence, our Freedom.

Either we make our beloved Belize an Industrial nation-state in the heart of the Caribbean, or we will be doom.

Economic reality in today’s Belize

By Bill Lindo

Belize City: Jan 21st 2020: — Recently I have been writing articles in Belize’s leading newspaper – Amandala, in which I have been trying to educate Belizeans that the reason why first the United States of America, and later Germany, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and today’s China have been able to supply a high standard of living for their citizens was because every one of them followed a version of Capitalism that was known during the nineteen century as the American School/System of Political Economy. In Belize we known it as George Price’s Mixed Economy.

The major concepts of the American School that distinguish that version of Capitalism from the British School are:

  1. Exploiting nature rather than men.
  2. Tariff Protection of local agriculture and manufacturing as free trade have always benefit the strong at the expense of the weak.
  3. High wages to workers, because as E. Peshine Smith, wrote: “In order to make labour-cheap, the labourer must be well-fed, well-clothed, well-lodged, well-instructed.”
  4. Money creation is a public utility and should be under the control of elected representatives of the people, not controlled by private individuals for private gain and control.
  5. Technology and innovation always causes new methods to enter production and thus profits and wages don’t diminish but instead leads to higher productivity and thus higher wages to workers. Therefore the theory of Diminishing Returns is not valid to physical reality.
  6. A view of soil fertility and agricultural productivity as a product of capital investment – not nature.  Science is the way to solve the problem of “mining the soil”.
  7. Public infrastructure as a means to lower costs in an industrial society by introducing new methods of production and communications, and the public support of research and development.
  8. Government intervention in an economy. Government as the “brain” must put a bridle on corporate bodies, and must establish the pursuit of happiness as a natural right of citizens. In Belize this principle is enshrine in the PUP’s Constitution as a sacred duty of government to create full employment and completely end poverty.

Next week I will continue to explain in some details the meaning of the eight principles that distinguish the American School from the British School. I will explain number c. – High wages to workers and why it’s necessary. But today I will explain why our economy is in the current state it is in, and how to fix it.  I will speak truth to power.

All students in most schools in the Western denominated world are thought the opposite version of Capitalism the British version as the only version, or as it’s called today – neoliberalism. This brain-control of our population creates serious problems for our country.

Belize is run in theory by elected politicians in the House of Representatives. But as in all countries which practice democracy, the so-called big boys – the 12 families control today’s Belize. This is because the cost to run in national elections is very expensive, and most candidates or their families don’t have access to that amount of cash money. And we all know, who pays the piper calls the tune.

Now, the subject that my detractors like — the coming collapse of the global financial system. Read any of the financial press and you will be struck by the fact that every one of them knows the crash is coming. For those who is interested – www.bonnerandpartners.com; https://wallstreetonparade.com; www.zerohedge.com; and others speak of the problems in the FIRE (financial, insurance and real estate) sector which acts as a parasite by attaching itself to the real physical economy.  Debt cannot be created without the physical economy ability to repay the debt. The late physical economist and statesman, Lyndon LaRouche “Triple Curve” describe the situation when the physical economy of agriculture, manufacturing, wages, profits is contracting, but both financial aggregates (debt) and monetary aggregates (money supply) are raising rapidly and at a rapidly , increasing rate. At the point where these curves cross (because the money supply must head for the sky to replace cascading losses in debt assets) the financial system is set for an early collapse.  Only God knows the time.

Now, Belize’s economy. Agriculture is down. For the last 3 years, production and prices are down. In the largest crop – sugar, prices have fallen some Bz $ 48 million dollars, and this season is expected to fall another Bz $ 29 million dollars.  With a proper nutrition program based on science, this effect of drought could have fallen to about Bz $ 5 million dollars in losses, but that’s another subject. (Read my article of Dec. 20th 2019 in Amandala).  Citrus earned some Bz $ 110 million dollars in the year 2009. Then it started to fall. In 2018 it was some Bz $ 71 million dollars in earnings. Last year it was about Bz $ 54 million dollars. This is blamed on HLB disease, which can be solved if the big boys permitted. This current crop now being harvested will fall again and will be blamed on HLB disease and the drought of last year. But those could have been prevented if science was applied in the growing of the crop.

Local manufacturing is less as Belize follow the dictates of the big boys who in turn listen to the Western school men/women, multilaterals, experts, etc. A direct result of this disregard for manufacturing is the low wages and productivity of Belizean workers. This sector of Belize’s physical economy contributes about 16%. In a properly functioning economy the industry sector should be at least 38% of the GDP.

And lastly, the overhead sector of the national economy. In Belize it’s about 70% of the total economy. It’s far too high. Government, the brain of the economy contributed about 12% of the total of Belize’s GDP. This includes most of the education and health sector as necessary overheads. The other 58% of GDP includes tourism, professional services, trade, and the FIRE sector. The local propaganda is that tourism is the beginning and end of Belize’s economy, in other words, it is the most important sector of the economy. But figures tell another story. Tourism is about 11% of GDP and employs about 18% of the labour-force, according to SIB for 2018.

According to the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) Belize’s economy is in recession.  But this means little to the average citizen of Belize. SIB also says the average income per month for the 190,000 labour-force is Bz $ 1,134 or about Bz $ 56 per day. But we know that about 74,000 or 39% of the total labour-force earns some Bz $ 695 per month or $ 34.75 per day or Bz $ 4.34 per hour. But there’s another 36,000 (19% of workers) whose monthly income is about Bz $ 520 or Bz $ 26 per day or Bz $ 3.25 per hour.  And some 10,000 men and women earn more than Bz $ 3,000 per month or about $ 750 per week.  This is about 5% of the total labour-force. We can take the methodology that was used in the 2008/2009 Halcrow study on poverty in Belize and using data from 2016 from SIB and the result is 60% of our population is living in poverty. That Belizeans is more than 202,000 citizens. Shame on you Belize!

Belize’s problem is how to make sure that the 74,000 workers who earn Bz $ 4.34 per hour and the other 36,000 workers who earn about Bz $ 3.25 per hour is paid at least Bz $ 10 per hour or say Bz $ 400 per week? This will end poverty in Belize.

Don’t say it cannot be done. Just last week, China announce that they have moved 850 million Chinese citizens out of poverty and that by the end of this year, 2020 the remaining 11.5 million Chinese still in poverty will be free from this scourge.

I am the chairman of the PUP Research & Development Committee. A panel was put together in June 2018 to work on this poverty elimination for Belize. A report was submitted to the Party in February 2019 and copies were send to the Unions of Belize, Better Business Bureau, the Chamber of Commerce and others.  Except for one member of the Chamber, no reply or comment was received on the proposal to eliminate poverty in Belize. This is how Belize works. The 12 families who control Belize always kill any plans that will change Belize for the better.

But what is in this proposal that makes the 12 families so afraid?

First raise the minimum wage for all Belizean workers to Bz $ 5 per hour or Bz $ 200 per week. Already the Belize City Council is paying this to its workers. And within 5 years double it to Bz $ 10 per hour or Bz $ 400 per week.

At the same time throw that curriculum out of our schools. It was design to stop most children from learning.  Money is not the problem, except to pay the teachers more for their work in helping to develop our beloved Belize. Instead of graduating 450 business students per year, UB need to put out some 600 scientists and engineers per year.

Government must promote a healthy lifestyle with quality foods of high nutrient-density. Implement NHI nationally. Produce certain generic drugs locally and make sure no citizen dies because of lack of money for health services. This is a basic right.

Every year some 5,000 persons join or attempt to join the labour-force. And we currently have 110,000 workers below the poverty-line. Government exists because we need a “brain” to run an economy. Government must create or cause to be create at least 11,000 new jobs each year in Belize. Where?  In the military; research; education and health; manufacturing; infrastructure to build roads, canals, building; youths, and especially family farms. These new jobs must pay more than Bz $ 400 per week, and the family farm must earn at least Bz $ 28,000 per year.

Look, Belize cannot pay its average low-skill worker Bz $ 10 per hour and remain competitive in today’s world. The minimum can now be raised from $ 3.25 to $ 5 per hour. In the real physical economy, wages depend on the intelligence of the worker and on the level of technology used in the process of production in agriculture and manufacturing. Note: technology is not computers or IT. Belize needs to “leap-frog” to new technology such as CNC machine tools, robotics, and automation. Any machine we buy must be of the latest technology. Doing only light manufacturing, is to preserve backwardness.

Now to create those 11,000 new jobs will require at least Bz $ 1 billion dollars per year in new investments. And where will Belize get it from?

The government must borrow Bz $ 450 million per year (USD $ 225 million) from foreign countries such as Brazil, USA, India, China, Germany, Russia, South Korea, and Japan to buy machinery and equipment – to buy technology – not water or goods we can produce ourselves.  The Central Bank will increase the local money supply by some $ 175 million dollars per year (free money – no interest) the National Bank of Belize (our financial independence) will create as debt (loans) some Bz $ 375 million dollars as long term loans at 1.5% to 2% interest per year for only — agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure, and research. The regular credit unions and commercial banks should continue their regular services to Belizeans.  Banks are not in the business of giving away money, so the person with a new idea never get funds to experiment or try his new venture. Only government can perform that service. And when it’s time to tear up loan contracts, only government can do that as PM Barrow has showed in his first term in 2008 – 2012.  And remember that Belize cannot print nor create United States Dollars. Therefore, if our Central Bank and National Bank print and create some Bz $ 550 million dollars per year, then at least Bz $ 385 million dollars must be cut from imports in order to protect our dollar peg.

Government must practice the policy of Capitalist dirigist methods to create the conditions to end poverty, defend Belize, and create full employment for all citizens at high money-wages, thus making our Constitution true – Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.
